Registration is now open for the 4th Annual TBI Ride. It will take place on July 12th, starting at 8:00 at the Sunset Manor, in Irene, SD. Please see their website for more details.
We neglected to update the date of the Ride of Silence from last year, and inadvertently scheduled the ride for tonight @ 5:00 PM, when the national date/time is next Wednesday (5/21) @ 7:00 PM. To honor the intent of the ride, we are postponing until that time. We apologize for any confusion.
Just a friendly reminder that the (in)famous BDCC member ride, Bunyan’s to Bob’s, will happen this Saturday (5/17)! We’ll start from Bunyan’s at 8:00 AM and ride to Bob’s, in the tiny hamlet of Martinsburg, NE. There, we will consume this:
There are many ways to get there, depending on your intestinal fortitude:
- blacktop the whole way (SD Hwy 19 – NE Hwy 12 – NE Hwy 9): around 32 miles one way via Ponca; once you hit Newcastle, it is mostly flat [map: https://goo.gl/maps/pauxZ]
- blacktop (SD Hwy 19) to Newcastle (via NE Hwy 12), gravel to Martinsburg: around 25 miles [map: https://goo.gl/maps/oLQne]
- gravel (nearly all the way): 25 miles [map: https://goo.gl/maps/gOfIO]
- car: mileage does not matter
Or any other combination thereof. Go back whichever way your stomach allows.
Note: the gravel from Newcastle to Martinsburg is extremely hilly—like a change in elevation of a mile. Travel at your own discomfort.
See you there!

The National Music Museum brings sound-artist Johnnyrandom and his ‘Bike Music’ to the Vermillion, South Dakota, Fri. & Sat., May 9th-10th, 2014
The National Music Museum is featuring sound artist and viral-video musician ‘Johnnyrandom’ at the Museum’s Open House during USD’s commencement weekend, May 9th-10th, 2014.
Johnnyrandom’s techno song “Bespoken” has become something of an Internet sensation. He created it from thousands of sounds harvested from two bicycles. Also known as Steven/Flip Baber, Johnnyrandom is the creator of the famed ‘Doritos® crunch’ sound effect (among others). He was recently featured on National Public Radio. Listen to/read the NPR blog (http://tinyurl.com/o2yrju5) or Wired Magazine’s report (http://tinyurl.com/myhyd8u).
As the centerpiece for NMM’s Open House, Friday and Saturday, we’ll display two new high-end bicycles, showing how they become musical instruments in the hands of a skilled, creative sound artist.
Don’t miss ‘Bike Music’ – either the special 12:05pm Friday ‘NMM Live!’ show; or the Friday evening/7:00pm encore, or demos throughout the day (until 5pm) on Saturday. All free.
We’re hoping to see a strong presence from local bike and music lovers!
